L & R Kox 2018 ElblingIn Fine Spirits
Elbling is an ancient white grape that, during medieval times, covered much of what is now Germany and Luxembourg. The variety is most extensively planted in the Mosel, typically in sites where Riesling struggles to ripen. It has very high acidity and low alcohol, making it suitable for sparkling wine. The winery was founded in 1977 by Laurent and Rita Kox, when they took over the family’s business in order to transform it from a grape cultivating to a wine making domaine. Today, the family has expanded the winery to 10 hectares and produces typical and atypical Mosel wines.
